Sue Faulkner 
Sue has over 27 years' experience in consultancy, delivering a wide range of practical, solution-oriented services to support clients at both strategic and operational levels in defining and achieving their business objectives.

Over the last 14 years, Sue's key focus has been in the tourism industry, helping destination marketing organisations and tourism SMEs to optimise opportunities offered by e-business and e-marketing; undetaking market research; designing and delivering animation and training workshops; securing EU and UK funding support for tourism initiatives; building strategic public/private sector partnerships; and project managing a range of initiatives.

Sue's recent project experience in the tourism industry includes:

  • Reviewing and developing DMS and online marketing strategies and operational plans

  • Designing and delivering surveys to assess current e-business activities and SME user requirements

  • Project managing B2B research into e-business adoption in the South East

  • Market research and analysis of DMO deployment and usage of destination booking systems within Europe, including e-business systems used by SMEs

  • Research and reporting on products and services of 'top' DMS/Destination Booking System suppliers operating in Europe

  • Specifying user requirements for DMS and tourism technology applications and facilitating tender evaluation processes

  • Design and delivery of e-business / e-marketing seminars and workshops

  • Producing best practice e-business guides

  • Design and delivery of DMS / availability updating training for SMEs

  • Preparing EU funding bids for tourism innovation and e-business projects

  • Project managing a range of EU funded projects

  • Facilitating impact assessments and best value reviews of tourism technology programmes

  • Developing value for money / income generation strategies and associated business plans

  • Working with Tourism South East and VisitBritain to deliver EnglandNet, including facilitating industry buy-in, managing pathfinder projects, and advising on local implementation programmes

  • Project managing CRM and major change programmes.

Sue was a member of the National Tourism Technology Working Group spearheaded by the then English Tourism Council, and represented Tourism South East on the EnglandNet Operational Group. She has also been a keynote speaker at numerous European and UK tourism and travel technology conferences and workshops.

Sue's previous experience has included interim management contracts, working at a senior management level in sales, marketing, account management, e-commerce and yield management in the commercial sector as well as in the UK Public Sector (local authorities and the health service).

As an integral part of each of these contracts, she established a new service / business stream and developed and managed the delivery of the strategy and business plans to achieve target results. This included 'spotting' new business opportunities and negotiating new deals or strategic business partnerships that contributed to future profitability and success; as well as marketing the resulting new products/services.

Sue is a member of the Tourism Society and IFITT (International Federation for IT and Travel and Tourism), and an Associate Member of the Tourism Management Institute. She is also an Executive Member of the European Tele-Regions Network.
